Saints DT Nick Fairley’s NFL Future In Jeopardy Due To Heart Condition (REPORT)

New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been absent from the franchise’s voluntary organized team activities this offseason due to a heart condition that reportedly could jeopardize his NFL future.

The former first-round pick recorded career-highs in tackles (43) and sacks (6.5) in his first season in the Big Easy, and he re-signed with the Saints on four-year, $28 million deal in free agency this offseason.

Fairley’s teammates have reportedly not been able to get a hold of him, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the current heart condition he is having tested is the same heart issue that came up during his pre-draft physical.

Fairley’s agent, Brian Overstreet, denied that the Saints defensive tackle recently visited a doctor.

“He’s good, just doing his own thing,” Overstreet said, via NFL Network.

Fairley, 29, spent his first four seasons in the league with the Detroit Lions before joining the St. Louis Rams on a one-year deal. The six-year veteran defensive lineman has amassed 170 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, and four forced fumbles through the course of his career and is expected to play a huge role in New Orleans’ revamped defense.
