Veteran WR Anquan Boldin Signs With Buffalo Bills

Anquan Boldin said in April he still had “the passion” to play after his 14th NFL season, and now months later he is joining his fifth franchise, the Buffalo Bills.

Boldin, 36, visited the Bills two weeks ago but needed time with his family before making a final decision.

The three-time Pro Bowl receiver and Super Bowl champion joins the Bills on a one-year deal that is reportedly worth $2.75 million but includes $1.25 million in incentives.

Boldin spent the 2016 season with the Detroit Lions after joining the franchise in late July last year. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound receiver caught 67 passes for 584 yards and scored eight touchdowns in his sole season in Detroit and should immediately elevate Buffalo’s receiving corps.

The 2015 Walter Payton Man of the Year currently holds the ninth most receptions (1,076) and 14th most receiving yards (13,779) in NFL history, and is tied with Brandon Marshall and Reggie Wayne for the 23rd most touchdown receptions all-time (82).

The Bills have multiple questions that need to be answered at the wide receiver position in 2017, and likely hope a proven veteran like Boldin can bring some added leadership to their locker room.

Former first-round pick Sammy Watkins is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the team declining to pick up his fifth-year option this offseason.

Buffalo also selected wide receiver Zay Jones with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and acquired wide receivers Andre Holmes, Rod Streater, and Corey Brown through free agency this offseason.
