Bengals’ Tyler Eifert To Undergo Season-Ending Back Surgery (REPORT)

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is reportedly scheduled to undergo season-ending back surgery on Thursday.

The Bengals fifth-year tight end has already undergone two surgical procedures on his back during his NFL career and has yet to complete a full 16-game slate.

Cincinnati picked up Eifert’s fifth-year option on his rookie contract during the 2016 offseason but likely have concerns re-signing him long-term given his injury history. When healthy, the 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end is considered one of the best at his position but has played in just 10 games since the start of the 2016 season.

The former first-round pick out of Notre Dame earned Pro Bowl honors during the 2015 season when he caught 52 passes for 615 yards and scored a team-high 13 touchdowns.

Eifert, 27, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2017 season.

Update: The Bengals officially placed Eifert on injured reserve on Thursday.
